I never grew up watching the show nor reading the books, but I have a deep love and respect for the characters and overall whimsy of this series. I especially relate to Snufkin and love his relationship with Moomin. I wanted to draw a sweet portrait of them, surrounded by signs of spring as a nod to how Snufkin always returns to Moomin when spring arrives. Since the author is from Finland, I wanted to incorporate signs of spring that would be specific to the country, in addition to other elements that I felt suited the characters.
For Snufkin, the signs I depicted include: the common blackbird, snowdrop flowers, and pansies. [flower meanings]
